Primary Purpose:
Perform professional accounting work involving compilation, consolidation, analysis and reporting of financial data.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, evaluate accounting problems, develop data, and
recommend improved procedures
Knowledge of computerized accounting systems
Ability to utilize software to develop complex accounting reports, spreadsheets, and databases
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
3 years accounting experience with a high level of responsibility
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Accounting
- Maintain complete and systematic records of assigned district financial transactions.
- Classify, verify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and maintain financial records according to governmental accounting principles and district procedures.
- Compute and prepare data for journal entry and budget transfers or amendments.
- Examine general ledger transactions for accuracy; make corrections as needed and inform supervisor of problems.
- Compute and prepare data for journal entry and budget transfers; compute and record cash receipt summaries.
- Monitor and reconcile expenditures with budget availability.
- Perform cost accounting activities, bank reconciliation, and accounting for grant expenditures.
- Prepare income statements, balance sheets, consolidated statements, statement of cash flow and other statements and reports.
- Transfer funds between accounts as directed by Chief Financial Officer.
- Assist staff in preparing purchase orders, verifying available funds and authorizations before purchase.
- Monitor and reconcile expenditures with budget availability.
- Develop vendor and bidder lists and approve additions or deletions.
- Monitor all purchase requisitions to ensure accuracy of information, calculations, and coding.
- Record and maintain inventory and capital assets.
Administration
- Work with administrators, principals, directors, and staff regarding budget and accounting issues.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Assist with Business Office special projects.
Records and Reports
- Prepare timely audit schedules and financial statements according to federal, state, and GASB standards.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Manage records retention process and ensure all records are stored appropriately in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Facilitate cross training with other Business Office staff.
- All other duties assigned by Chief Financial Officer.
