Primary Purpose:

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout district. Performs all duties associated with applying all types of latex and oil-based paints and performs detailed painting. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or Accredited General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade, including sprayers and pressure washers

Skill in effectively planning and organizing painting work orders and projects

Knowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colors

Ability to properly apply paints

Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures

Ability to operate hand and power tools

Proficient in English (written and verbal skills)

Ability to work independently

Ability to promote efficiency, morale, teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members

Experience:

Minimum Two (2) years of documented and verifiable painting experience (residential and/or commercial buildings).

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Painting and Repair

  1. Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
  2. Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
  3. Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
  4. Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
  5. Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain delivery records.
  6. Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  7. Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
  8. Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.

Maintenance and Repair

  1. Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.
  2. Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
  3. Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
  4. Complete repairs as directed on work orders or by maintenance foreman.
  5. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
  6. Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.

Safety

  1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
  2. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
  3. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  4. Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
  5. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van using manual transmission and/or auto transmission and pull or back up trailers of varying sizes and respond to after-hour emergencies.

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential function of the job, regular working hours are from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm Monday thru Friday, when school is in session, changing to 7:00 am to 3”30 pm when school is out (i.e. summer and student holidays. Each employee may be scheduled to work different shifts and be “on call” periodically outside  regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel
