Primary Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to assist in moving, painting, constructing, demolishing, cleaning,

Assembly of furniture and other assigned duties that are asked of them and that do not contradict or conflict with OSHA regulations, and or other federal and state labor laws. Help to maintain an aesthetically pleasing environment by assisting skilled craftsmen in their daily duties of repair, and day-to-day maintenance. Perform other assigned duties such as basic maintenance and repair of building structures throughout the district. At no time will the use of power tools and or power equipment be used without direct and constant supervision. At no time is a student employee to be left alone with power tools and or equipment in the vicinity of his line of sight.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

LVISD High School Student

Must meet the age requirement for employment

 

The expectation of duty:

Lift up to 50 lbs. alone and 100+ lbs assisted

Work in and outdoors

Work in heat and or cold conditions

Ability to properly apply paint

Use hand tools after showing proper techniques and or procedure for use of a tool Ability to work in high places (i.e. ladders, scaffolding)

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)

Ability to work independently

Positive attitude

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Painting and Repair

  1. Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with an appropriate filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
  2. Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, thinning, and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
  3. Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray guns, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve the required effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
  4. Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
  5. Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain delivery records.
  6. Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records on material and labor
  7. Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
  8. Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
  9. Ability to work independently or as a group on other assigned duties.

Maintenance and Repair

  1. Knowledge of basic maintenance repairs and the use of tools.
  2. All duties as assigned by Custodian Supervisor, Coordinator of Maintenance, and Director of Facilities and Operations.

Safety

  1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and Operating equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
  2. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
  3. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  4. Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
  5. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.

Tools/Equipment Used: Small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel
