Primary Purpose:

Develop and maintain district routing structures utilizing industry specific logistics program and working cooperatively with campus and other district staff in support routing services. Manage dispatch communications, including responding to requests for information and maintain departmental database records.

 

Qualifications:

           

Education/Certification/Licensure:

Must be 18 years of age

High School diploma or equivalent

Clear and valid Texas commercial drivers license with P and S endorsements, Texas school bus driver certification. No greater than 5 points on driving record at time of hire.

 

Special Knowledge /Skills:

Knowledge of District transportation behavior standards. 

Knowledge of the use of bus equipment, including two-way radio.

Knowledge of resource management and effective communication techniques; responsibilities and projects, and multitasking.

Knowledge of basic mathematics and statistics, office productivity suite (MS Office), electronic communications programs (Google Mail, Two way Radio), and data entry.

Knowledge of logistical operations, coordination, and management.

Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of commercial motor vehicles and all laws, regulations, and ordinances governing pupil transportation.

Knowledge of pupil transportation emergency procedures.

Ability to instruct others during an emergency.

 

            Experience:

                        Minimum of 3 years experience as school bus driver

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  1. Dispatch drivers and vehicles on a daily basis.
  2. Monitor and respond to two-way radio communications.
  3. Receive, record, and report driver and bus monitor absence calls.
  4. Communicate with drivers, campus/program staff, and parents to cooperatively develop and maintain operationally safe and efficient routing structures.
  5. Structure routing services according to Board, district, and departmental policy maximizing service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  6. Maintain database records for routes and provide timely updated information to drivers, educational representatives, and parents.
  7. Maintain database records for students and provide applicable reports in a timely manner.
  8. Maintain positive customer service support through communication with parents and campus personnel, and provide recommendations for implementation of improvements in service delivery.
  9. Periodically drive bus route to determine status and condition of route.
  10. Provide assistance to campus/departments as request.
  11. Interact positively with employees and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District in a favorable manner.
  12. Participate in team building activities and the decision-making process as appropriate.
  13. Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  14. Communicate with parents and campus staff to build collaboration for addressing and managing student discipline and routing issues.

 

 

Other:

  1. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
  2. Perform other job-related duties as assigned
  3. Compile, maintain, and file all logs, worksheets, files, and reports related to dispatch operations.
  4. Serve as substitute bus driver as needed.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); school bus; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; prolonged driving; moderate walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching

Lifting: Limited light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) on a daily basis

Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work early shift; may work irregular and prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
